FAQ

I'm a complete beginner. Can I still attend?

Of course! SBDF welcomes dancers of all levels. In fact, quite a few people take their very first blues dance steps right here at SBDF. We offer a Starter Pass that includes a beginner-friendly introductory class on Thursday evening to get you started. No prior experience needed.

I don't dance, but I love live music. Can I come just for the music?

Yes! You don't need to be a dancer to enjoy SBDF. We have an option for those who just want to soak in the live performances and the atmosphere. You'll receive a separate wristband so everyone's on the same page.

How do the workshops work?

There are two types. Regular workshops and open workshops on Saturday and Sunday are open to everyone regardless of level. Special workshops on Thursday and Friday focus on specific themes — the difficulty may vary depending on the topic, so just pick whatever catches your interest.

Can I learn both leading and following?

Yes. You choose your role at the start of each class. You're free to pick whichever one you'd like, regardless of experience.

Can I come alone without a partner?

Absolutely. Most attendees come solo. Blues is a social dance — you'll naturally meet and dance with many different people throughout the weekend.

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

There's no strict dress code. Comfortable clothing you can move in works great, and some people dress up a little for the evening parties — it's entirely your call. That said, since you'll be dancing and socializing in close proximity with others, we ask that you come in reasonably presentable attire. Please avoid flip-flops, excessively worn-out clothing, strong body odor, or overpowering perfume/cologne.

What kind of shoes should I wear?

All dance floors are hardwood. Most shoes work fine, including sneakers. However, please avoid shoes with dirty soles that could stain the floor, shoes with wet or sticky residue on the bottom, or shoes with sharp, narrow heels that could damage the wood.

What if someone makes me uncomfortable while dancing?

You are always welcome to clearly communicate your boundaries to your partner. If someone continues to behave disrespectfully despite that, please report it to any staff member immediately. We take these matters seriously and will respond right away.

Can I enter competitions without a partner?

Yes — all divisions except Strictly allow individual entry. For Strictly, you'll need to register with a partner.

Is there a separate competition fee?

Yes. Competition registration details and fees will be announced when the registration page opens.

What kind of music will be played?

As a blues dance festival, blues music is at the heart of everything. A different live band performs each night on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. DJ sets are primarily blues, with occasional R&B and soul tracks mixed in as bridges. During late-night parties, we also run a separate room for fusion music if you're in the mood for something different.

Will the event be in English or Korean?

Both. The event is run bilingually in English and Korean. While we do our best to keep everyone informed, not every piece of information may be equally available in both languages at all times.

Can I bring food into the venue?

Food is not allowed inside the dance spaces. However, there are designated areas where you can eat comfortably. The event also provides plenty of food and snacks, so don't worry — just come and enjoy.

Will there be event photos? What if I want mine removed?

Our photographers will be capturing moments throughout the festival, and photos will be shared on our official channels. If you'd like a photo of yourself taken down, just let us know where you saw it posted and we'll remove it.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

The full policy will be published when registration opens. Ticket transfers are not permitted, but cancellations and refunds are available in accordance with Korean consumer protection regulations.
